A New Street Band for Sunshine!

There’s a brand new Street Band starting in Sunshine as part of Community Music Victoria’s StreetSounds project. So grab an instrument and get on board!

The band will have horns, woodwind, ve percussion. It’s starting from scratch, and the best bit is... EVERYONE'S WELCOME!

It doesn’t matter your skill level or ability. What’s important is you want to be involved.

What is StreetSounds?
StreetSounds is a community building, grant funded project, which is helping form ten new Street Bands across Victoria over the next two years. It made possible with support from the Helen MacPherson Smith Trust and RE Ross Trust.

This exciting program will culminate with a Street Bands Festival in 2017. And if you’re wondering what a ‘treet Band is… well… it’s any group of musicians who can play outside and, where possible, on the move.

Brimbank Resident Gets the Sounds Happening!
Peter Hinton got the ball rolling for a Sunshine based band after hearing about StreetSounds in November 2014. “At first I was just looking for somewhere to play with my daughter but then the chance to be part of StreetSounds popped up, so I’m going to give it a go – the band will be open to beginners through to experienced players”.

So whether you’ve played for years or are just starting out, the Sunshine Street Band would love you to join them. Community Music Victoria’s Lyndal Chambers is working with Peter and she’ll lead the first few sessions.

When Does it Start?
The first band meeting is on Tuesday 2 June, 7.30pm, at Albion Community House 61A Selwyn St. Albion, and will be held fortnightly.

If you want to be involved contact Peter Hinton on 0413 623 683 peterhinton@optusnet.com.au or Lyndal Chambers at lyndal@cmvic.org.au.

They're also keen to hear from anyone who might have instruments to donate or to loan to the project. Contact Lyndal Chambers, StreetSounds Project Manager, on lyndal@cmvic.org.au or 0429 439 609.
