Brimbank Community and Civic Centre Now Open

After months of anticipation, the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre opened its doors yesterday Monday 25 July.

The completion of this landmark building is a milestone for Sunshine, Brimbank and indeed, Melbourne’s West.

This is the community’s building and was therefore designed with community in mind.

Return to 301 Hampshire Rd

301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine, is now the place to visit for all your Council needs and to enjoy the exceptional, new Sunshine Library.

New Sunshine Library

Stretching over two floors, the Sunshine Library has something for everyone. The amazing reading room looking out onto Hampshire Road is sure to become a favourite amongst visitors, along with the dedicated children’s zone with storytime amphitheatre.

There's areas for study, IT training rooms, free Wi-Fi throughout, a toy library, collections in English and 10 community languages, outdoor space and much more.

If you’re not a library member, now's the time to sign up! Library membership is open to everyone at no charge.

Customer Service

Visit Customer Service for all Council related enquiries and payments. There's also be self-serve options.

All planning, building and environmental health enquiries, which were previously directed to Keilor, will now be dealt with at the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.

Community Meeting Spaces

There is a range of community meeting spaces for hire after hours at very affordable rates. All meeting spaces come equipped with a Smart TV and WiFi. Meeting rooms will be available for hire after hours from 1 August 2016. To enquire, call 9249 4537.

Official Opening Event

We have an official opening event planned for Sunday 14 August. Keep an eye open for more details to come. Don’t forget, Council’s phone, mailing and email address are still the same.

Family Fun Day at New Sunshine Library

Saturday 6 August, 11am–2pm

Come along to a special Family Fun Day to celebrate the opening of the new Sunshine Library on Saturday 6 August from 11am–2pm.

There will be children’s activities, library tours, performances, prizes and much more. For more information visit Brimbank Libraries.

Where: The Sunshine Library is located at 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine, within the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.


Brimbank Votes

The Brimbank Council elections will be held by postal vote later this year. All postal votes must be received by 6pm on Friday 21 October.

It will be your responsibility to elect Councillors after seven years of administration.

Eleven elected Councillors will form the Council, which will be responsible for making decisions in the best interests of the Brimbank community, considering both the immediate and long term impacts.

The election will be conducted by postal vote.

If you will be 18 years or over on election day, are an Australian citizen and you live or are a ratepayer in Brimbank, then you will be eligible to vote.

To vote, you must be enrolled with the Victorian Electoral Commission. Visit the Victorian Electoral Commission or phone 131 832 to confirm your enrolment.

Interested in Standing for Council?
If you’re interested in becoming a Councillor you need to be:

  • 18 years or over on election day;
  • an Australian citizen; and
  • enrolled as a resident or ratepayer of the City of Brimbank.

Key responsibilities of the Council are in the areas of:

  • strategic planning for the whole municipality and a sustainable future
  • advocacy on a broad range of issues
  • coordination with other spheres of government, the private sector, non-government and community sectors
  • facilitation of community participation
  • employment of the Chief Executive Officer.

A key responsibility of individual Councillors is to represent all citizens of the city and to participate in decision-making by the Council.

Brimbank Votes: Candidate Information Session

Monday 8 August, 7–9pm

Are you interested in running for Council? Come along to a free community and candidate information session at the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre on Monday 8 August.

The Municipal Association of Victoria information session will cover:

  • the role and purpose of local government
  • Councillors’ roles, responsibilities and expectations
  • the Brimbank municipal area
  • the electoral processes
  • Councillors’ experiences.
