The new Brimbank Multi-Deck Car Park constructed between George and Dawson streets in Sunshine will open for use on 21 September 2016, and offers parking at reasonable rates.

The new Brimbank Multi-Deck Car Park constructed between George and Dawson streets in Sunshine will open for use on 21 September 2016, and offers parking at reasonable rates.

Parking is free for the first two hours. The car park rate is $2 for 2-4 hours, and $4 for four hours and more. The car park is open from 5.30am to 10pm, seven days a week.

Chair of Brimbank Administrators John Watson said that the car park provides additional and affordable car parking within the Sunshine Town Centre.

“The new Brimbank Multi-deck Car Park offers a viable and practical parking option in the busy Sunshine Town Centre.

“The car park is for use by the general public, as well as Council staff and the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre tenant partners.

“Council has made sure the car park rates are affordable, and the car park rates are the same for the public as well as Council staff.

“The multi-deck car park has been designed to maximise the space available and offers 361 spaces.

“The car park offers 113 car park spaces for the general public which is more than double the amount of public car parks previously available on this land. These car park spaces can be used by the community, including users of the nearby Sunshine Leisure Centre.

“The remaining 248 spaces are allocated for Council staff and tenant partners, as a condition of the planning permit for the development of the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre on Hampshire Road,” Mr Watson said.

“The public parking is located on the lower three floors of the multi-deck car park,” Mr Watson said.

Entry and exit to the Brimbank Multi-deck Car Park is from George Street, off Devonshire Road.

The car park uses a fully ‘cashless’ payment system that requires all payments to be made by debit card/credit card (paywave). Access is via a boom gate and the use of ‘pay wave’ or ‘pay pass’ through a debit or credit card. Users will need to swipe their debit or credit card on entry and on exit with payment automatically deducted from the account. There will be no option for cash payment.

“A debit card only system is expected to be accepted by a large portion of the users and has the security advantages of cash not being kept within the car park,” Mr Watson said.

The parking rates will be reviewed on an annual basis and may be adjusted as required to ensure the new car park is well utilised.

In accordance with a Council decision in June, an extension to the Brimbank Multi-deck Car Park is planned for a later stage. This extension will replace car park spaces that will be lost from the Clarke Street/Withers Street Car Park due to the development of the VicRoads Regional office on that site.
