Physical activity is important in achieving and maintaining good overall health and wellbeing. Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice said Council had adopted the new Brimbank Physical Activity Strategy 2018 to guide current and future physical activity needs of the community.
“The strategy outlines Council’s commitment to supporting increased participation in physical activity and empowering the community to be happy, healthy and active.
“Physical activity and exercise brings health, fitness and wellbeing to our lives and creates opportunity for our community to lead more active and healthier lifestyles.
“People living in the west are facing some of the toughest health challenges across the state.
“Now more than ever, we’re looking at ways to identify initiatives that motivate whole communities to be more active.
“The strategy will guide how Council supports and plans for future physical activity programs, events and initiatives available for all people in the community.
“Under the strategy, Council will also explore opportunities to partner with other organisations to deliver and promote physical activity programs for people of all ages and abilities.
“The strategy outlines Council’s role in delivering programs and activities in a safe and welcoming environment, which embraces and promotes cultural diversity and social inclusion.
“As a responsive Council, we want to create better connected communities that contribute to the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our community,” Cr Giudice said.
Council has invested significantly towards infrastructure that supports environments for physical activity. In its 2018-2019 Budget, Council has committed $12.18 million in sporting facility upgrades and enhancements – an unprecedented investment in the health and wellbeing of our community.
