Brimbank Council is seeking community feedback on its proposal to defer construction of the extension to the Brimbank Multi-deck Car Park in Sunshine.
The decision to defer plans for the car park extension and consult with the community on the matter was taken at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 17 July.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice said Council wanted to get community feedback before making a decision on whether or not the multi-deck car park extension project should go ahead.
“Council has decided to consult first with our community, to get their feedback on the proposal to defer the car park extension.
“We know that there are different views on the proposed extension of the multi-deck car park, and so it’s important that Council undertakes a formal consultation process, to ensure everyone gets to have their say before any decision is made.
“I would like to encourage everyone interested in this matter to have their say,” Cr Giudice said.
Consultation on the proposal to defer construction of the extension to the Brimbank Multi-Deck Car Park (Stage 2) in Sunshine will open on 31 July, and written submissions on the proposal must be received by 12noon on 4 September.
Submissions may be posted to Council (to Chief Executive Officer, Brimbank City Council, PO Box 70, Sunshine VIC 3020) or emailed to NeilW@brimbank.vic.gov.au.
Anyone making a written submission also has the right to be heard in person on their submission to Council, at a Hearing of Submissions Committee Meeting to be held at 6pm on 19 September 2018. Anyone wishing to be heard in support of their submission at this meeting should state so in their written submission.
After the submissions have been considered, a further report will be presented to Council for a decision on the Brimbank Multi-deck Car Park Extension project.
The Brimbank Mayor said that Council recognises that there are car parking demands across the municipality.
“To ensure these changing car parking needs are best met, we need to employ an integrated and strategic approach to future car parking management.
“Council has started to develop a Brimbank Car Parking Strategy for the entire municipality, which will give us a better understanding of car parking demands across all of Brimbank,” Cr Giudice said.
A Council decision was made in June 2016 to undertake a future extension of the Brimbank Multi-Deck Car Park, which would replace 90 car park spaces lost from the Clarke Street/Withers Street Car Park due to the development of the VicRoads Regional office on that site.
The Council decision to sell the land for the VicRoads development and extend the Brimbank Multi-deck Car Park was made after a community consultation process.
