Community Update - Asbestos concerns in Cairnlea

Friday 4 November

Council is disappointed that the operators of 93 Furlong Road did not advise the community about the possible removal of asbestos and other waste at the site today (Friday 4 November). Despite this, Council is pleased that action is being taken to remove the materials and that WorkSafe has confirmed the proper controls for the safe removal of the asbestos were in place.

Council has been advised that some asbestos material may have been removed from the site but further removal works, by appropriately qualified experts, may be required.

Council understands that EPA will continue to monitor the site to ensure all appropriate actions are undertaken to clean up the site. Council is working with the EPA to coordinate a community information session at the Cairnlea Community Hub next week. Information will be provided as soon as details have been confirmed.
