Brimbank's Home Composting Program
Victorian households throw out about 250,000 tonnes of food each year. Food in landfill breaks down anaerobically (without air) and produces greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change.
Composting is something we all can do to minimise waste going to landfill and help make a big difference for the environment. Every household that composts diverts an average 3kg of food waste per week from landfill, or approximately 156kg per household per year.
Composting at home is a great way to cut your waste in half, reduce your carbon footprint, and make rich soil and fertiliser to grow healthy gardens.
Eligibility
Brimbank’s home composting program is available to Brimbank home owners and renters.
There's a limit of
- one (1) rebate per household.
- 300 households per financial year, on a first come, first served basis.

Order your compost bin or worm farm

Minimise your waste
The best way to manage food waste is to minimise the amount that becomes waste in the first place. You can do this by only buying what you need and using everything you’ve got.
