Hampshire Road is destined to become unique and vibrant, where walking, cycling and public transport will be encouraged as main modes of transport.
Council is thrilled to see the completion of the first stage of Hampshire Road works as it marks an important milestone in the transformation of the Sunshine Town Centre.
The $1.18million upgrade between Devonshire Road and Dickson Street, includes footpaths, street lighting, the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing, and construction of a sculptural seating wall.
The Hampshire Road Masterplan is a vision for the evolution of Sunshine’s main street, stretching from Sunshine Railway Station to Victoria University, including the new community and civic centre.
The works were supported by $200,000 from the Victorian Government’s Community Infrastructure Fund.
“This is certainly a very exciting time for Sunshine,” Chair of Brimbank Administrators, Mr John Watson said. “The transformation occurring in the Sunshine Town Centre can be described as nothing less than impressive.
“It is also a great example of different levels of government working together to deliver exceptional outcomes for the community."
Stage two of the Master Plan implementation will commence in 2016 and will focus on the area outside the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre development which is expected to be completed by mid-2016.
