Funding Proves a Safe Investment for Dawson Street Precinct

Summary

Council has successfully gained $250,000 funding from the Victorian Government towards the transformation of Dawson Street.

The recent announcement (Thursday 15 October) of Public Safety Infrastructure Funding for the Dawson Street Precinct and the Sunshine Town Centre is exciting news.

Council has successfully gained $250,000 funding from the Victorian Government towards the transformation of Dawson Street.

This funding means Council will maximise pedestrian amenity and safety through an integrated lighting and shelter feature, strengthening the link between the new multi deck car park and Service Street.

The improvement works will add to other projects being undertaken in the Sunshine Town Centre, including the improvements to Hampshire Road and the construction of the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.

Project details:

  • Construction of a 50 metre long formal pedestrian shelter structure on the east side of Dawson Street to improve pedestrian amenity;

  • Installation of street lighting along the eastern side of Dawson Street and continuous LED strip lighting along the pedestrian shelter; and

  • Re-work the existing council car park to the east of Dawson Street to reduce the number of driveway crossovers, and upgrade the existing overhead lighting to meet relevant Australian standards.
