Brimbank residents, schools, businesses and community groups are set to take part in the annual Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October 2018.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Margaret Giudice said Council is proud to be bringing this national initiative back to our community this year and to help raise awareness around reducing waste and recycling.
“The Garage Sale Trail is a fun way for people to declutter their homes, fundraise, meet their neighbours and reuse and recycle items rather than throw them out.
“The event brings communities together and encourages everyone to take responsibility for the waste we create.
“It’s a great way for communities to connect and interact with their neighbourhood around the issue of resource consumption and environmental benefits of reuse and recycling.
“Last year Brimbank residents did a fabulous job supporting the program that led to over 90 individual and group sales across 12 suburbs – exceptional results for the first year of the program.
“In fact, Brimbank Council received the Best Newcomer award for bringing the Garage Sale Trail to life for the first time in Brimbank.
“The event attracted over 2,000 shoppers and over 18,500 items were listed for sale in Brimbank. The result shows that the average participating household in Brimbank made $238 in sales at last year’s event.
“The Garage Sale Trail is proving to be a favourite event amongst the community and a fun way to create positive social and environmental change,” Cr Giudice said.
To participate, residents, schools, businesses and community groups must register their sale at no cost by visiting Garage Sale Trail or call 02 9052 0827. Registrations open on 10 August 2018.
