A new draft policy will guide Council’s approach to developing a vibrant festivals and events program in Brimbank.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice invited the community to have a say on Council’s Draft Festival and Events Policy and Strategy 2018-2021, which was endorsed for public consultation at the May Ordinary Council Meeting.
“Festivals and events bring colour, culture and fun to our lives and create opportunities for our community to come together.
“This draft policy and strategy will guide how Council invests and supports a future Brimbank Festival and Events Program – including festivals and events organised by Council, as well as community-led festivals and events.
“It also explores opportunities for Brimbank to partner with other organisations and festival producers to bring new audiences and offerings.
“Brimbank has so many great locations for showcasing and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of our community.
“People in Brimbank love festivals and we know our festival and events program will offer great things for visitors to our city,” Cr Giudice said.
In its 2017-2018 Budget, Council increased funding for festivals and events with an additional $180,000 through the Annual Community Grants Program and through funding agreements with the Keilor Gift, St Albans Lunar Festival and Sunshine Lantern Festival.
