Getting to know Brimbank's Leisure Centres

Summary

With almost 580,000 visitors a year to our leisure centres, it’s not hard to see that leisure facilities are important in promoting physical activity in the community.

Physical activity plays a key role in our physical, social and mental health. Being active reduces the risk of chronic diseases, including diabetes and some cancers and helps improve our mental health, wellbeing and community connectedness.

As the warmer weather approaches, now is a great time to get re-energised and get back to a healthy routine.

Our team at the St Albans and Sunshine leisure centres know that regular physical activity and exercise can have substantial health benefits even in small doses.

Let’s get active and improve our health

Being physically active and exercising brings health, fitness and wellbeing to our lives.

We know that people living in the west are facing some of the toughest health challenges across the state.

Now more than ever, we’re looking at ways to motivate whole communities to be more active.

Brimbank Council has been advocating for increasing investment in leisure facilities and physical activity programs, which address the health and wellbeing challenges and growing needs in our community.

We are not as healthy as we should be, and we want to see this change.

With this in mind, have you considered a Body Pump or Zumba session, or perhaps a yoga class or Aqua Aerobics sounds more tempting? Whatever your interest or fitness level, the Sunshine and St Albans leisure centres are great places to get started on your health and fitness journey.

You won’t be alone, come along and be among the 57,000 people attending a group fitness class each year.

Our leisure facilities are an important part of ensuring that people of all ages, abilities and gender have every opportunity to access and participate in physical activity.

We believe healthy bodies, happy minds, and connected communities will bring improvements to the social and health outcomes for our community.

Meeting your leisure centre needs

No matter the goal, our leisure centres are here to help. Whether it’s a tailored program for the gym, an invigorating group fitness class or learning to swim we want the community to achieve their fitness goals.

Our team of fitness experts across both centres are on hand supporting and guiding our community to feel better and empowered about their health and wellbeing.

All of our staff strive to provide a welcoming environment, which embraces diversity and all fitness levels. We want our members to feel informed and supported in achieving overall health.

Being active is important for people of all ages, especially as we grow older. Exercising regularly can help manage and prevent symptoms of illness, pain and reverse signs of ageing. On top of this, being active is great for your body, your mood, your overall health and wellbeing.

Our leisure centres have many programs and activities designed with your health in mind, including group fitness classes, aquatic exercise, gym equipment, swimming lessons and much more.

Being a leisure centre member is a great way to keep active and socially connected with the community. It’s a great way to improve your health and fitness and meet new like-minded friends!

The next time you visit our leisure centres, come across and try the new Evolt system. In 60 seconds, the Evolt 360 analyser can measure your complete body composition and provide better solutions to tracking overall health.

Learn to swim

Every year our popular Swim School program teaches over 2,200 residents swimming skills and safety techniques to use throughout their life for fun, fitness and recreation.

Swimming is an important life skill – teaching people to swim confidently and safely, whilst preparing them to survive in the water is our focus. We pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive swimming program - from children aged six months, through to squad classes and adults of all abilities.

And with summer upon us, visiting the pool is a great way to cool off.

It’s time for something new

We’ve got big plans for improving the health and lives of our community.

We know our community is getting excited about our plans to replace the much-loved St Albans Leisure Centre with a world-class health and wellbeing hub – that’s like no other.

Water slides, three indoor pools, an indoor splash park, a wellness centre and 24-hour gym are just some of the features the community can look forward to enjoying in the new aquatic and leisure centre.

This will be a landmark project for Brimbank and the region.

If you want to learn more about the plans, drop by any of the community information sessions that will be held in October. For more information visit the Brimbank City Council website.

Join us and add your name to the growing list of supporters by signing the community pledge wall next time you visit St Albans Leisure Centre or pledge your support online at areyouin.brimbank.vic.gov.au

We can show the world just how much the community supports this project.

All in all, this is a great time for leisure centres in Brimbank!
