Glitter and Doom at The Bowery Theatre

Summary

Equal parts glamorous cabaret salon and debauched dive bar, The Glitter and Doom Salon is a live performance experience like no other.

Presented as part of Midsumma Festival, The Glitter and Doom Salon features Helpmann Award winner, Paul Capsis (pictured at right), who holds many theatre, TV and film credits to his name. Paul’s Greek/Maltese heritage has often been a feature of his solo award-winning career.

Paul will be joined on stage by the amazing performer Dandrogyny, as well as the witty and captivating, Anya Anastasia and dancer and madcap flapper, Clara Cupcakes.

An Edinburgh Festival Fringe Star

A star of the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it was described by audiences as “the hot, slightly androgynous, dark and intensely alluring new kid on the block when it comes to cabaret”, the Salon features Australia’s most enigmatic cabaret stars and vibrant vaudeville artists.

Tom Waits Music as Inspiration

The show is tied together by the music of Tom Waits, and the brilliance of MC, performer and broadcaster Jennifer Kingwell and The Glitter and Doom Salon house band.

The Glitter and Doom Salon delves into the essence of cabaret artistry: the interplay of glamour, tragedy, satire and risk taking. It equally serves as a heartfelt homage to the music of Waits himself, an artist beloved by the contemporary cabaret scene and one of the all-time great songwriters of the dive bar/theatre circuit.
