Brimbank City Council and partners congratulate the winners of the two arts competitions that were held in the lead up to the unveiling of Man lifting cow.

The iconic, bronze artwork standing 6 metres high in Hampshire Road, Sunshine was created by internationally recognised artist John Kelly and inspired the 1000 Cows Project art prize and the Art Prize for VCE students.

These arts initiatives have been made possible through the further generous support of one of Man lifting cow’s principal partners.

Alongside hosting art workshops and the 1000 Cows exhibition, Sunshine Marketplace has pledged prize money for schools and students.

About the projects:

1000 Cows Project

Children and families were invited to build a herd of a thousand milk carton cows during workshops held at Sunshine Marketplace, Hunt Club Community Arts Centre and the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.

The project also included an artists in schools program that resulted in nine primary schools participating in the project.

Schools involved in the project had the chance to win $1,000 worth of art materials.

The 1000 cows are on display in Sunshine Marketplace until the end of September and on level one of the Sunshine Library, 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine.

Art Prize

VCE arts students in Brimbank were invited to submit in one of four categories: painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing to win $500 and a John Kelly artwork; the school the student attends would win $1000 to purchase art materials; category winners will also be awarded $50 vouchers for the best in each section.
