Parking your car at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve is about to get a whole lot easier with a $1.5 million redevelopment of the reserve car park set to start soon.
Brimbank Council awarded a contract for the redevelopment of the car park at its Ordinary Council Meeting on 17 April.
Works are set to start before the end of the financial year and are expected to be completed by September 2018.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Margaret Giudice said the redevelopment of the busy car park was something many community members had been waiting for.
“Keilor Park Recreation Reserve is a popular place as our community accesses a wide range of sports played at the reserve.
“The current gravel car park located outside the Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium, is an eyesore and a source of frustration for users.
“The redevelopment of the car park will formalise the space to create 381 car parking bays, and include new walking paths and crossings to improve safety as people walk to and from their cars.
“This project will add to the 60 car parks established as part of the extension of the Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium in 2015.
“While there may be some short term inconvenience when works get underway, the long-term benefits of the car park redevelopment will be well worth it,” the Mayor said.
The car park redevelopment project will include construction of the car park road pavement, kerb and channel, underground drainage, asphalt surfacing, footpaths, raingardens and associated civil works.
Council has approved funding of $950,000 (excluding GST) within the Annual Budget 2017/2018 for the car park upgrade in the Keilor Park Recreation Reserve.
The remaining funding required for the project has been referred to the draft Annual Budget 2018/2019 process.
The car park is used by the Keilor Little Athletics Centre, Keilor Park Synthetic Sportsfields, Keilor Park Softball Association, and the Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium.
Local sports clubs and operators using Keilor Park Recreation Reserve will be kept updated throughout the duration of the project.
The Keilor Park Recreation Reserve car park is located off Stadium Drive, Keilor Park.
