Men's Health is No Joke! Well... maybe one or two jokes...

Comedian and TV/Radio personality, Dave Hughes will be the guest speaker at Brimbank’s Men’s Health Day at Westvale Community Centre on 14 June 2017.

 

The Men’s Health Day event, as part of International Men’s Health Week (12-18 June) aims to promote the importance of men’s health and wellbeing to local men. Dave Hughes will speak as part of the official opening, at 11am.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr John Hedditch said Council wants to help men become more aware of how they can lead healthier lives.

“The saying goes that laughter is the best medicine, so we’re very happy to have Dave Hughes on board supporting this year’s event as our guest speaker.

“This day is all about connecting with men in our community and to support them in getting helpful and correct information about men’s health from various services providers.

“And we’ll also have some fun in the process,” Cr Hedditch said.

Brimbank Men’s Health Day will include DIY activities, hearing checks and information stalls from organisations including:

There will also be information about Council services and programs and representatives from local lifestyle and hobby groups.

“It is widely acknowledged there are links between good nutrition, positive social networks and physical fitness on overall personal wellbeing.

“Council provides a range of services and facilities to support the community’s health and wellbeing needs.

“This includes quality parks and open spaces, walking and cycling paths, ongoing support to sporting clubs, community strengthening grants and a comprehensive community wellbeing program delivered all year round across Brimbank in Neighbourhood HousesLeisure Centres and Libraries.

Brimbank Men's Shed

“The Men’s Shed at Westvale Community Centre is also a great example of how we specifically support men’s health and wellbeing.

“The Men’s Shed is a meeting place for men from across Brimbank that offers activities, classes and programs to suit almost every interest – carpentry, gardening, DIY, cooking, sustainable living, life skills to support independent living and much more,” Cr Hedditch said.

Brimbank Men’s Health Day will be held from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday 14 June 2017 at Westvale Community Centre, 45 Kings Road, St Albans. Dave Hughes will speak as part of the official opening, at 11am.
