Brimbank Council has adopted an updated Sports Facility Development Plan 2018, with the goal of increasing sports participation.
Playing sport and getting more active can significantly improve health, safety and wellbeing in our community.
In recognising this, Brimbank Council has adopted an updated Sports Facility Development Plan 2018, with the goal of increasing sports participation and improving facility provision in Brimbank over the next 10 years.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Margaret Giudice said Council recognises the critical role that sport plays in helping our community lead a healthier lifestyle.
“Brimbank’s Sports Facility Development Plan 2018 provides a comprehensive and up-to-date account of the participation and facility needs of the Brimbank community over the next 10 years.
“New and updated sport and recreation facilities are an important part of ensuring people of all ages, abilities and gender have every opportunity to access and participate in sporting activities.
“As a responsive Council, we are committed to providing well planned and appropriately located sports facilities that meet the needs of our community members.
“We also know in recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of women and girls playing sport in Brimbank.
“The plan prioritises the capital works needed to work towards addressing these needs and improving the social and health outcomes for the community.
“Now more than ever, we’re looking at ways to identify sporting trends and improve sporting infrastructure needs in our community,” Cr Giudice said.
Brimbank’s Sports Facility Development Plan was first developed in 2012 following significant community consultation, and updated in 2016 and again this year.
The plan has proven successful in helping Council to secure significant external funding towards sports projects since its adoption in 2012.
