Sunvale Community Park - What's in a Name?

Summary

You’re invited to have your say on plans to officially name Sunshine’s most anticipated park – “Sunvale Community Park”.

We want your feedback on the proposed name “Sunvale Community Park” for part of the former Sunvale Primary School site at 20 Neil Street, Sunshine.

Brimbank Mayor Cr John Hedditch said the name reflected the site's history, which was home to Sunvale Primary School from 1957 until 2009.

“The local community campaigned strongly to create this park – affectionately naming the site ‘Sunvale Community Park’ during the campaign. This proposal would make that name official,” Cr Hedditch said.

“Many Sunshine residents feel a strong attachment to the site and its history – this proposed name honours that connection.”

Council adopted the Sunvale Community Park Master Plan in June 2016 after extensive community consultation.

Building the park began in June this year. Works are scheduled to end this summer.

The high quality park will have some exciting features including

  • dedicated play spaces,
  • a large green ‘kick a ball’ space,
  • and much more.

All existing trees will be kept and new large shade trees will be planted.

Submissions close on Thursday 26 October 2017. Following consultation, Council will consider the proposed name at a future Ordinary Council Meeting.
