Community members are invited to GlenGala Day on 1 September to enjoy some fun activities, as part of a Think. Shop. Buy Local at Glengala Village in Sunshine West.
The event is an initiative of the 20 Minute Neighbourhood Pilot Program, which is funded by the Victorian Government and delivered by Brimbank City Council.
GlenGala Day will feature a range of fun activities including a ‘Guess Who’ competition, special trader offers, and smoothie bikes. There will also be live music, facepainting, a magician, and a Think. Shop. Buy Local tote bag and pedometer giveaway.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice was pleased Council had been selected to conduct a 20 Minute Neighbourhood Pilot program because it aligned with Council’s commitment to walkable neighbourhoods.
“As part of the pilot program, we’re working to create a 20-minute walkable neighbourhood at Glengala Village in Sunshine West, where residents can access most of their daily needs including local services and facilities within a 20-minute walk, cycle or local public transport trip from home.
“These everyday needs include schools, shops, meeting places, open spaces, cafes, doctors, childcare and access to public transport.
“Events like GlenGala Day showcase how our neighbourhoods can meet the needs of the local community.
“I encourage anyone who lives around Glengala, or is visiting nearby, to pop by on GlenGala Day, to enjoy some fun activities and the wonderful range of local shops, cafes and more around Glengala Village.
“Supporting local business is a win-win for everyone. Not only is it a convenient option for community members, each time you buy local you’re helping to build economic benefit and boost community spirit in your area,” Cr Giudice said.
The 20-Minute Neighbourhoods Pilot Project is an initiative overseen and funded by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) in partnership with Brimbank Council, the local business and resident community, the Heart Foundation, Victoria Walks and Victoria Police. The pilot program in Glengala started earlier this year, and will be completed in early 2019.
