Upgrade to start at McKechnie Reserve

Summary

Playing sport at McKechnie Reserve in St Albans is about to get a whole lot better.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Margaret Giudice said ground renovation work has started on the sportsground at McKechnie Reserve, which once complete, will be a game changer for sport at the reserve.

“This project will invest $938,000 in sportsground improvements to renew an ageing asset that is well used in the community.

“The upgrade works will significantly increase the grounds capacity and will serve the home club, the Westvale Soccer Club, well for training and competition.

“The problems that have been experienced on this ground are set to be a thing of the past.

“The ground improvement works will include installation of better drainage, irrigation, new turf, new kerb and channel, fencing and new coaches’ boxes.

“This will result in significant savings going forward by eliminating the yearly maintenance costs incurred in the past.

“The floodlighting was recently upgraded on Pitch 1 at McKechnie Reserve, and together with the sportsground upgrade this will provide increased opportunity for sport and recreation and better access for the wider community,” said Cr Giudice.

Construction is expected to be completed by April 2019.
