Walk for Reconciliation

The Brimbank community is invited to join a Reconciliation Walk in Sunshine on Thursday 31 May to recognise National Reconciliation Week this year.

After a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, participants will then set out on a guided tour from Duke Street Community House and walk approximately 500 metres to Matthews Hill Reserve.

The walk will be followed by a community barbecue, traditional games, Aboriginal face-painting, arts and crafts.

Brimbank Council is hosting the walk in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services and Duke Street Community House.

All are welcome, and the activities and BBQ lunch will be offered at no charge.

  • When: Thursday 31 May 2018, 10.30am–12.30pm
  • Where: Duke Street Community House, 27 Duke Street, Sunshine
  • Contact: For further information, phone Duke Street Community House on 9311 9973

National Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May–3 June.

These dates commemorate two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: The 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.

This year’s theme ‘Don’t Keep History A Mystery: Learn. Share. Grow.’ explores history hidden just beneath the surface, ready and waiting to be uncovered.
