Welcome. We Are Brimbank! Get wild in the West to celebrate culture and diversity.
It’s time to celebrate the diversity of the western suburbs with an event that will showcase its wide range of international people, food and entertainment.
Brimbank City Council is proud of the fact more than 160 languages are spoken and at least 166 nationalities call the area home and that’s why it’s putting on free food and drink to help everyone embrace this dynamic mix of cultures.
Hundreds of people are expected to gather around a pop-up café during Cultural Diversity Week (Friday 23 – Sunday 25 March) on Alfrieda Street in St Albans. The café will run for three hours each day with all food and drink costs covered by the Council.
Cr Margaret Giudice, Brimbank City Council Mayor, said: “Brimbank is one of the most dynamic constituencies in the West. There is such a wealth of different languages and cultures represented here that it makes for a vibrant and engaging place to live and this is something we feel is worth shouting about.
The café will offer treats from local traders that represent a range of different cultural communities in the area. Entertainment will also be provided by local performers showcasing the best of Brimbank’s talent.
“I look forward to welcoming both locals and visitors to our international café event and hope that it will encourage everyone to engage and support their neighbours. It’s our goal to make Brimbank a place where people can enjoy living, working and having fun in and this is just the beginning.”
This celebration is part of a new Council led campaign called ‘Welcome We Are Brimbank’ which has been developed to showcase all the amazing aspects of Brimbank’s diverse communities to the wider West region and Melbourne.
Spreading the Word About Brimbank
Throughout 2018, the Council will work to help spread the word about local people, their businesses, their community work and the new and emerging opportunities in the area for growth and investment.
Mayor Giudice added: “The ‘Welcome We Are Brimbank’ campaign and video has given us an opportunity to shine a light on the benefits of living in an integrated and multicultural environment.
“Whether it’s being able to access a wide range of different cuisines, learning to enjoy new and different forms of entertainment or educating our younger generations we want to show people just how much Brimbank has to offer.
Lots of New Investment
“Over the last five years there has been significant investment in the area to help improve infrastructure and facilities particularly in Sunshine but also in neighbouring suburbs. Brimbank City Council is committed to supporting the growth and development of its constituency and we look forward to sharing with others all the opportunities available.
Whether it’s buying property, investing in business or just spending time with us, we are open and everyone’s welcome.”
